In short
- TeamD helps you find people to play sport with. We collect what the app needs for that and nothing for advertising: no ads, no tracking, no selling of data, no data brokers.
- Other people see your nickname, your @username and the sessions you host. They never see your phone number, your exact location or your date of birth. The exact meeting point of a session is shown only to people who have joined it.
- Payments and identity checks for hosts are handled by Stripe. Sign-in codes are sent by text. Join confirmations are emailed only if you add an email address and confirm it.
- You can delete your account in Settings at any time. Your messages go with it.
- Questions or requests: inquiries@teamd.co.uk.
1. Who we are
TeamD ("TeamD", "we", "us") runs the TeamD app for iPhone and the website teamd.co.uk. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at inquiries@teamd.co.uk or on +44 7347 756567.
2. The waitlist on teamd.co.uk
When you join the waitlist we ask for your name, your age, your email address and your phone number. We use them for one thing: to tell you when TeamD launches and to offer you an early place. The lawful basis is your consent, which you give by submitting the form and can withdraw at any time by emailing us.
When you join we send you one email confirming your place; each email we send you says how to be taken off the list. We keep these details until launch. If you then create an account, they move into it; if you do not, we delete them within 30 days of launch. You can ask us to remove you sooner at any time.
To stop abuse of the form we also keep a scrambled version of your connection address (a keyed hash that changes every day and cannot be turned back into the address) and the first part of your browser's identification string. The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
TeamD is for adults. The waitlist does not accept anyone under 18.
3. What the app collects
Your account
- Mobile number. You sign in with a UK mobile number, confirmed by a one-time code sent by text. We use it to sign you in, to keep sessions real and to contact you about your account. It is never shown to other people.
- Nickname and @username. Your nickname and the @username you choose are public: they appear on your profile, on the sessions you host and in people search. Your real name is optional and stays private unless you choose to share it.
- Date of birth. Used only to check that you are 18 or over. It is never shown to anyone and cannot be changed later.
- Gender. Self-declared and optional. Used only to decide eligibility for women-only sessions.
- Profile picture. Optional. We store a small copy with no metadata, shown to people who may open your profile.
- Sports, level and pace. What you play and how, so we can match you to sessions.
- Home area. The area you set as home, stored as a cell of about one kilometre, never as an exact point.
- Email address (optional). If you add one and confirm it with a code, we use it only to email you join confirmations. You can remove it in Settings; the unsubscribe link in those emails turns the confirmations off.
Using the map and sessions
- Location. With your permission, the app uses your location to show sessions near you and to check you in when you tap "I'm here". What reaches our servers is the area you are in, a cell of about one kilometre, never your raw GPS position. Your location is never shown to other people.
- Sessions and teams. The sessions you host, join or wait for, and the teams and communities you belong to.
- Messages. What you write in session, team and friend chats, visible to the other members of that chat.
- Reports and blocks. Reports you make, with any notes, are read only by the TeamD team for moderation. Blocks are private.
- Notifications. A device token from Apple so we can send push notifications you have turned on.
- Points and attendance. Check-ins and TeamD points, so sessions reach people who turn up.
Hosting and paying
- Identity verification for hosts. Before you can host, Stripe checks a government ID document and a selfie on its own pages inside the app. This includes biometric matching of the selfie to the document, which Stripe carries out with your explicit consent. TeamD never receives the images or the document details; we keep only whether the check passed, when, and a reason code. We ask Stripe to delete the check when you delete your account, when a new check replaces it, or at once if the document shows that you are under 18.
- Payments. When you pay for a session or a membership, your card or Apple Pay details go to Stripe. TeamD never sees a card number. We keep the amount, the status, Stripe's fee and a link to the receipt.
- Payouts. If you host paid sessions, your bank details are collected by Stripe on its own pages. We keep only three status flags, never the details.
- Team subscriptions. The small-team plan is billed by Apple through the App Store. We store the subscription's transaction id, product, expiry and status, never the price paid or your Apple ID.
- Club enquiries. If you ask us to set up a club or organisation, we keep the name, email, phone number and message you send so we can reply.
4. Why we use it, and the lawful basis
| Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Running the service: your account, the map, sessions, teams, chats, notifications, payments and payouts | Performance of our contract with you |
| Keeping people safe: the 18+ check, host identity verification status, reports, blocks, bans and abuse prevention | Our legitimate interests in a safe service, and in some cases a legal obligation |
| Biometric matching during host verification | Your explicit consent |
| Optional email confirmations, push notifications, the waitlist | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Keeping payment records | Legal obligation (tax and accounting law) |
5. Who sees what
Other people on TeamD see your nickname, your @username, your profile as far as your visibility settings allow, and the sessions you host. People who have joined a session see its exact meeting point; everyone else sees only the area. Nobody sees your phone number, your date of birth, your email address or your location.
Companies that process data for us, each under a contract that limits what they may do with it:
- Stripe (payments, refunds, payouts and host identity verification)
- Apple (the App Store, push notifications and team subscriptions)
- Prelude (the one-time sign-in codes sent by text)
- Microsoft 365 (the optional join-confirmation emails and our own mailboxes)
- Hetzner (the server, in the European Union)
- Google (a private Google Sheet that mirrors the waitlist for the TeamD team)
- Resend (the emails we send to the waitlist and about your account)
We do not sell personal data, share it with data brokers or advertisers, or use it for tracking across other apps and websites.
We may disclose data where the law requires it, to protect people from harm, or to enforce our terms.
6. Where your data is kept
Our server is in the European Union, which the UK recognises as providing adequate protection. Stripe, Apple, Prelude, Microsoft, Google and Resend may process some data in the United States or elsewhere; where they do, the transfer is covered by the UK's adequacy regulations or by the International Data Transfer Agreement and standard contractual clauses, with additional safeguards where needed.
7. How long we keep it
- Your account and everything in it, for as long as you have it. When you delete your account, your profile, preferences, picture, memberships, follows, notifications and chat memberships are deleted at once.
- Messages you wrote are deleted when you delete your account, in every chat. Your one-to-one chats are deleted with both sides' messages. Session chats are purged 30 days after the session closes in any case.
- Reports are kept for moderation until the TeamD team resolves them, with your identity removed if you delete your account.
- Payment, refund and payout records are kept for up to six years to meet accounting and tax law, with the link to your account removed when you delete it.
- Identity verification at Stripe is deleted when you delete your account or when a new check replaces it.
- Sign-in codes and pending email codes live for minutes, then go.
- Server logs record what was requested and when, never who from: they hold no client addresses.
- Waitlist details as described in section 2.
8. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, take it with you in a portable form, and withdraw any consent you have given. Most of this you can do yourself in the app: edit your profile, remove your email, turn notifications off, or delete your account in Settings. For anything else, email inquiries@teamd.co.uk and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather hear from you first.
9. Under 18s
TeamD is for people aged 18 and over. Accounts that appear to belong to someone younger are closed, and the waitlist refuses anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children; if you believe we have, tell us and we will delete it.
10. Security
Data travels encrypted between your phone and our servers. Backups are encrypted. Access to personal data is limited to the founders and to the processors above, each only for its purpose. Card numbers, identity documents and bank details never touch our systems.
11. Cookies
teamd.co.uk sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties. The app keeps your preferences on your device.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for anything that matters, tell you in the app before it takes effect.
